Ciao K!
Did I do that right? Probably not. I really thought speaking french would help me here but every time I try to participate in italian, I feel like such an asshole. Why is that? They’re both romance languages so why is it so hard? Could you find a way to send me some of your italian skills? Great, thanks.
Yesterday was a whirlwind. I started with a tour of the Vatican and all the good stuff there. I had a great tour guide who explained so much of what you would’ve had to explain to me. She also had us skip a lot, which you know I love to do in a museum setting. We still spent 3 hours there!
What were your favorite parts of the Vatican, I wonder? I think mine were all the elaborate ceilings. They were so ornate and beautiful, if maybe a little gaudy. I mean, I feel certain Trump has probably installed a few elaborate ceilings in his day, but certainly nowhere near as beautifully. How will I go home to my white ceilings? I may need to commission someone to fix them.
In the afternoon I went on a food walking tour of Campo di Forni, the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere. It was amazing and I learned so much about the different foods and traditions. By the time it was done, I’d eaten a full dinner of food so what did I do next? Went to dinner, of course.
By some crazy coincidence, Elissa and Ish were also in Rome last night and I met them for dinner in Trastevere. It was so good to see them and we had so much delicious food. Was Trastevere a neighborhood you hung out in when you were here? It seemed like it was the hot spot for Saturday night. Where did you guys go 25 years ago? I wish I knew so I could’ve gone to those neighborhoods and checked them out.
Also, is it weird I keep thinking about Amanda Knox? Probably not to you. I know she wasn’t in Rome but I just keep thinking about her experience here and everything that happened. The good news is that so far, my experience has been way better. I intend to keep it that way.
Ok, I’m off to Florence! Ciao!
